Published: 12/09/2007

Derrell Bell, Jr., WR - Asbury Park

After joining the team in the second week of the season, Bell exploded for 568 yards receiving and nine touchdowns on only 25 catches, an average of 22.7 yards per catch. The Blue Bishops did not lose a game with him in the lineup on their way to capturing the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group I title, their first state sectional title since 1984. In the final against Keansburg, Bell had four catches for 125 yards and three touchdowns. In the Blue Bishops' first meeting with the Titans in the regular season, Bell had four catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a 43-yard touchdown. In three state playoff games, he had five touchdown catches and was nearly unstoppable in one-on-one coverage because of his leaping ability. He also was able to do all that damage in a run-oriented offense that featured a pair of 1,000-yard rushers. Bell also had four interceptions as a defensive back, including one that sealed a one-point win over Keyport. He has received interest from Colorado and Rutgers.
