BEST SNACKBAR - STUMPY AWARDS

Best Snackbar
I must say, this category has gotten a little tough because most places
just offer the standard hot dogs, burgers, candy and chips. That still
hasn't stopped me from regularly dining at them every weekend.
The nominees:
Point Boro: The food is solid, but this nomination is really for
the pretzel stand right next to the main concession area. There's
usually no line, and the pretzels and popcorn are both good and also
cheap.
Rumson-FH: The sausage and peppers sandwiches from Val's Tavern are as good as it gets, but they go fast.
Keansburg: The defending champions in this category, the Titan
Cafe has good diversity with pork roll, the usual dogs and candy,
sausage and peppers and chips. Next year they will just start pumping
Crisco directly into your veins if you so desire.
Matawan: If you're going to do the standards, do them right.
Cooked over a nice hot flame and served hot off the grill, these are
the best burgers in the Shore.
Lacey: A good variety of candy and a line that moves quickly,
which is key when you're trying to do stats, text message furiously,
pop on a radio broadcast or run to your car at halftime.
Holmdel: The chicken fingers are good with their fries, and they
also have tea on the cold days for those that hate coffee (like me, for
instance).
Asbury Park: Making a serious run at Keansburg's title with the
addition of meatball sandwiches, roast beef sandwiches and one of my
favorites, Chick-Fil-A sandwiches.
And the Stumpy goes to....You know, I looked at other girls for
a while, played the field, had a few flings and then a real romance
with the Chick-Fil-A offering at Asbury Park, but in the end, I came
home to my first love, back to the Titan Cafe for Keansburg's playoff
game against Highland Park. It was there that I downed four thinly
sliced, hot-off-the-grill pork roll andwiches at halftime before
ordering a sausage and peppers sandwich and finding out that there were
all gone. I had a big smile on my face during my angioplasty right
before the second-half kickoff, and I realized I never should have
strayed. I'm sticking with Da 'Burg.
