Freshmen/Sophomores to watch
I'm sure I might have missed some people here, especially on the line,
but this is from what I saw. *Updated on Wednesday, 12/12/07
George Stephens, Asbury Park: Already a 1,000-yard rusher as a sophomore, he will see more carries next year. Look out.
Chris Chiarelli, Colts Neck: Became the first 1,000-yard passer
for a season in Cougars' history as a sohpomore. His sophomore
teammate, kicker Eric Spillane, is also one to watch.
Billy George, Long Branch: The nephew of Green Wave head coach Dan George, Billy was a starting linebacker for the Green Wave this season and also was also an impact player at tight end. Next season, he could be one of the top linebackers in the Shore.
Steve Barrosso, Toms River North: Was a key contributor as a sophomore at linebacker for the Shore's No. 1 defense.
Jared Allison, Matawan and Charles Davis, St. John Vianney: The two freshmen quarterbacks took their lumps this season but flashed playmaking ability and will only get better.
Nico Steriti, Toms River East: The sophomore could be the next explosive back for the Raiders and is also dangerous on special teams.
Lorenzo Venables: He looks to be Manasquan's next big-time back as a junior.
Rob Handy, Howell: A big target, the sophomore wideout will be picking up the slack for a host of departing talent next year.
Craig Sweeney, Middletown South: One of the best athletes on the team, he is dangerous on both sides of the ball as a wide receiver and defensive back.
Bennett Jackson and Jesse Raymond, Raritan: The two running backs were bright spots for the Rockets during a 2-8 season and return next year along with a host of reinforcements from consecutive undefeated freshman teams at Raritan. The Rockets may not be down for long after making three trips to the state sectional finals in the last four seasons.
Zach Hayden, Point Boro: An impact player on the defensive line, the sophomore could be a household name by next season.
Bryan Thomson, Keyport: Could be the top two-way lineman in the Patriot Division next year as a junior.
